Khao soi at Mr. Kai
A friendly Old City restaurant serving rich khao soi and a wider menu of Thai dishes.
Updated 27 October 2026
Mr. Kai is an easygoing restaurant in Chiang Mai’s Old City where we enjoyed a rich bowl of khao soi and a warm welcome. The Northern Thai dish brings together soft egg noodles, a creamy curry broth and crispy noodles on top. It is a satisfying introduction to Chiang Mai food, but there is plenty more on the menu if you are dining with people who want something different.

Khao soi and more
The khao soi comes with the familiar accompaniments of lime, shallots and pickled mustard greens, so you can add them to your taste. The crunchy noodles give each spoonful a contrast of textures. Our photo below shows one of the restaurant’s generously served bowls.

The restaurant also has a wider Thai menu. Visitor reviews often mention dishes such as green curry and tom kha alongside the khao soi, as well as friendly service and good value. That variety makes Mr. Kai enjoyable for a shared meal, not only a stop for one famous noodle dish.

You can sit inside or at one of the outdoor tables. There are many delicious interpretations of khao soi across Chiang Mai; for another favourite, see our guide to Uncle’s khao soi stall at Sunday Walking Street.
