This loop is about 8 kilometers long. The max elevation is around 896m, giving a great view over the surrounding area. Fast hikers do this trip in 3-4 hours and it will take the average person up to 5-6 hours, depending on the amount of stops for a picture, rest or view.

Explore trails of Doi Nangmo (ดอยนางเมาะ)

The Doi Nangmo peak stands above 1000 meter tall. The mountain is home to several trails for hikers of different levels, As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Keep in mind there is an ascend/descend of a few meters that has to be done by climbing a rope. The peak of Doi Nangmo can be reached in two ways:

  • Doi Nangmo back-and-fourth: this is a ‘faster’-hike, as you can park the motorbike closer to the hiking trail, reach the peak faster as the distance is shorter. So perfect for a faster and shorter visit. This trip is about 5km.
  • Doi Nangmo Loop: hike the loop in either clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. Clockwise you’ll reach the peak faster, but the descend is longer and more challenging. Anti-clockwise, the ascend is longer, but easier and likely a better experience, as you reach smaller peaks and views upon reaching the final peak of Doi Nangmo, before ascending in a convenient trail. This trip is about 8km.

So, to be clear, our recommendation is to walk the loop in anti-clockwise direction. We think it’s most beautiful and more convenient considering the ascending and descending paths and steepness.

Final recommendations
  • Before going to Doi Nangmo we recommend making a stop at ‘Chuen Cafe‘ for some food (pasta carbonara our favorite, or Thai food) or drink, while enjoying the stunning view of the lake and feeding the big fishes in the lake.
  • After the hike you can make a great stop at a local restaurant that goes by the name of “เฮือนไม้ฮิมออน แจ่วฮ้อนพะเยาเจ็ดยอด“, it offers an amazing open view and great Thai food including Thai hotpot seats, to perfectly finish the day with a well deserved meal!
  • Do not hike when it’s wet or rainy, as the hike can be slippery and dangerous. Also there might be many leeches in the jungle waiting to suck your blood.
  • Bring enough water (minimum 2L) and bring some food/snacks for the trip.
  • If you decide to go on a shorter trip, combine your hike to Doi Nangmo with other activities in this area. Recommendations on our Mae Kampong page.
