Mae Kampong Day Trip

Explore the peaceful mountain village of Mae Kampong

Nestled in a valley between two mountains, Chiang Mai offers a wealth of day trip opportunities by motorbike. In this post, we’ll guide you through a scenic journey to the picturesque mountain village of Mae Kampong, with stops in San Kampaeng and Doi Sakhet along the way.

Leaving the City for San Kampaeng

Begin your adventure by leaving the city and heading towards San Kampaeng, where you’ll find the local fresh market. Along the way, consider detouring to visit the Bo Sang Umbrella Village, Siam Celadon pottery, and other interesting spots. In San Kampaeng, enjoy a serene atmosphere at Chuen Cafe, explore the Chiang Mai Art Museum, or cuddle sheep at the Dutch Farm.

Exploring Mae Kampong

Choose your route to Mae Kampong: either drive through Tham Muang On, a Buddhist cave, or take a detour through the mountain valley. Once in Mae Kampong, stroll around the village, enjoy the river, and grab a bite to eat. For stunning views, drive a bit further up the road to a coffee shop overlooking the village.

Soi Sakhet Hot Spring and Doi Sakhet

Next, head to the Soi Sakhet Hot Spring or continue your journey by driving through the agriculture and food development area, with its lakes and curvy roads, or head straight to Doi Sakhet Lakes and Temple. Admire the temple sites, and either grab a meal at the Doi Sakhet local market before (or after) watching the sunset from this breathtaking location.
