Golden Triangle Loop

An amazing multi-day motorbike adventure in Northern Thailand!

The Golden Triangle Loop is a adventurers paradise, offering a thrilling and scenic journey through the provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son. This loop takes you on a multi-day (5-7 days) adventure through jungle, stunning waterfalls, and charming hill tribe villages, while offering a glimpse into the region’s rich history and traditions.

We drove a part of the Golden Triangle Loop ourselves with our own variation (Chiang Mai – via Mae Kampong and stay in Phayao – Chiang Khong (border with Laos) – Chiang Saen (Golden Triangle) – Mae Sai (most Northern point of Thailand) – Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai. Along the way we made stops at mountains, viewpoints and other beautiful hotspots that are worth traveling too.

Tips and Precautions

  • Road Conditions: The roads are mostly paved, but some sections can be steep and winding. Be prepared for unpredictable weather and potential road closures during the rainy season.
  • Motorbike Conditions: Make sure you drive a good motorbike with a minimum of 125cc and good brakes, as the road can be very steep. A stronger motorbike (150cc and more) is recommended.
  • Accommodation: The route has a range of accommodations, from budget-friendly guesthouses to luxury resorts.
  • Food and Drink: The loop offers a variety of local cuisine, including traditional Thai dishes, BBQ stalls, and street food.
