Sticky Waterfalls

Prepare for a truly unique adventure at the Sticky Waterfall in Chiang Mai.

Unlike ordinary waterfalls, this natural wonder allows you to defy gravity as you climb up its limestone steps. Thanks to the mineral-rich waters, the surfaces of the rocks are incredibly grippy, making it possible to ascend the waterfall with ease. Immerse yourself in the cool, refreshing cascades as you make your way up, surrounded by lush greenery and a sense of exhilaration. The Sticky Waterfall is a must-visit destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike, offering an extraordinary and unforgettable experience in the heart of Chiang Mai.

The Sticky Waterfalls are also known as Bua Tong Waterfall.

The waterfall is about 1:15 hour drive north of Chiang Mai Old Town and as of writing, access is for free!

If you take the motorbike, we recommend to drive over the 1001 road and not on the 107. We consider the 107 a higher risk for police checks, since it is the main road to the North (Pai, Sticky Waterfalls, Chiang Dao) and there are more police stations along the 107 road. Also, the 1001 is a less busy road, so more comfort on the motorbike.

More exploring & adventure!

If you have a motorbike you might as well extend your trip to the Sticky Waterfall by driving a loop to the Mae Kuang Reservoir and then back to Chiang Mai over local curvy roads! This route is a little challenging as it goes up and around the hills and encounters a few unpaved roads, but we managed to do this route perfectly fine with our friends. It was well worth the beautiful scenery in such an amazing peaceful area.

Another option is to drive the loop anti-clockwise and visit activities in Mae Rim after the Sticky Waterfalls.
