Tok Sen Massage at Wat Sri Suphan

What Tok Sen massage is and how to combine it with a visit to Chiang Mai's Silver Temple.

Updated 20 October 2026

Tok Sen is a Northern Thai massage technique that uses a small wooden mallet and peg to create a rhythm of gentle taps along the body. At Wat Sri Suphan, you can experience it just outside the Silver Temple grounds. The photo above shows a Tok Sen session at this location.

What Tok Sen feels like

The wooden tools produce a distinctive tapping sound and sensation that sets Tok Sen apart from oil massage or a standard Thai massage. A session can also include pressure and stretching. The practitioner works with you during the treatment, so you can say if you prefer a lighter touch.

The Silver Temple setting

Wat Sri Suphan, often called the Silver Temple, is known for its detailed metalwork south of Chiang Mai’s Old City. The Tok Sen massage space is outside the main temple area, so you can enjoy both the temple and a treatment during the same visit. Women can see the Silver Temple’s exterior but cannot enter its main sanctuary.
